Crockett County Consolidated CSD
Acceptable Use Policy

In making decisions regarding student access to the district network and the Internet, the Crockett Co. Cons. CSD considers its own stated educational mission, goals, and objectives. We believe that electronic information research is now an essential element in the preparation of citizens and future employees. Connection to the Internet allows students to access hundreds of thousands of computers and millions of individual users all over the world. This computer technology will help propel our schools through the communication age by allowing students and staff to access and use resources from individuals and groups around the world and significantly expand their available information base.

The Technology Coordinator or designee shall implement, monitor, and evaluate the district network for instructional and administrative purposes.

AVAILABILITY OF ACCESS

Access to the district's network, including the Internet, shall be made available to students and employees exclusively for instructional and administrative purposes and in accordance with the following administrative regulations.

Access to the district's network is a privilege, not a right. All users shall be required to acknowledge receipt and understanding of all administrative regulations governing use of the district network and shall agree in writing to comply with such regulations and guidelines.

CONSEQUENCES FOR UNACCEPTABLE USE

Noncompliance with applicable regulations will result in loss of district access to the Internet and/or disciplinary action consistent with District policies and regulations. Any violations of law may result in criminal prosecutions as well as disciplinary action by the District.

PROMOTING ACCEPTABLE USE

To encourage students to use the Internet in productive, educational ways, Internet access will be restricted to students with a valid educational purpose. Students will generally use the school’s Internet facilities under the supervision of a faculty member, thus minimizing the potential for misuse. Our district network will continually monitor Internet sites visited by students and staff by keeping a log of every page accessed. Through this log, inappropriate use can be traced back to an individual at the school whose access will then be investigated. Furthermore, the school will use a filtering system that will block access to known sites containing inappropriate material.

WARNING

System users with access to the Internet should be aware that use of the system may provide access to other electronic communication systems in the global electronic network that may contain inaccurate or objectionable material. Crockett Co. Cons. CSD is not responsible for inappropriate material acquired by students on the district network or the Internet.

ACCEPTABLE USE

The district network will be used only for administrative and instructional purposes consistent with the District's mission and goals.

The technology coordinator shall develop and implement administrative regulations, guidelines, and user agreements, consistent with the purposes and mission of the District and with law and policy governing copyright.

The following uses of school-provided Internet access are NOT permitted:

to use another person's ID or password

to access another individual’s materials, information, or files without permission; and,

to violate copyright or otherwise use the intellectual property of another individual or organization without permission.

Vandalism Prohibited

Any malicious attempt to harm or destroy District equipment or materials, data of another user on the district network, or any of the agencies or other networks that are connected to the Internet is prohibited. Deliberate attempts to compromise, degrade, or disrupt system performance may be viewed as violations of District policies and administrative regulations and, possibly, as criminal activity under applicable state and federal laws. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creating of computer viruses.

Crockett County Consolidated CSD
Student Acceptable Use Policy Agreement

We at Crockett Co. Consolidated CSD are pleased to offer students access to the district computer network for electronic mail (e-mail) and Internet access. To gain access to e-mail and the Internet, all students under the age of 18 must obtain parental permission and must sign and returned this letter to their school. Students 18 and over do not have to have a parent or guardian signature.

Access to e-mail and the Internet will enable students to explore thousands of libraries, databases, and bulletin boards while exchanging messages with Internet users throughout the world. Families should be warned that some material accessible via the Internet might contain items that are illegal, defamatory, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people. While our intent is to make Internet access available to further educational goals and objectives, students may find ways to access inappropriate materials as well. We believe that the benefits to students from access to the Internet, in the form of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, exceed any disadvantages. But ultimately, parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using the Internet.

Student Agreement

I understand and will abide by the Crockett County Cons. CSD Acceptable Use Policy for network access. I also agree to report any misuse of the district network to a staff member. I further understand that any violation of the regulations is unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation of the policy, my access privileges may be revoked, school disciplinary action may result and/or appropriate legal actions may be taken.
