This weekend our teams competed in Crane at their home invitational, which had over 800 runners across 6 divisions competing. Aside from our Lubbock meet I would call this a huge showcase of West Texas area cross country. The boys and girls competed against 1-6A all in one division. For this reason, I am so proud of the following results:

Our boys team competed the most together they have all season. They are really responding to what their team roles are, and are running to improve their standings in each meet no matter the size of the competitors. Our “runner of the week” for boys this week would have to be Braden Claburn. He has competed fiercely each week but this week I was very proud of how he closed the gap to his teammate and helped out on points. He also has been a great leader with great attitude towards everything asked of him.

The boys ended up 6th out of 10 teams besting Eldorado this week which is a impressive district competitor.

Our girls competed great as well, as our top 4 are pretty close all race. The second half of our team the next 3 have  pretty big gap off the front of the pack and will continue to need to run down their teammates in order to close up the gap. They are a very young group and have improved leaps and bounds all season so I know they will continue to grow and get faster. As a team they finished 4th, out of 13 teams.

The 8th graders who were selected to come were selected based on attitude, competitiveness, and attendance at practices. This was a great chance for them in a small group to experience a “HS” style run – waking up early on a Saturday, running in a large competitive pack. I had senior Audrey Upham “coach them up” at the line and had varsity kids cheering them in just like they do for each other at HS. They did great!
